Use cases
The following use cases describe a service provided to achieve the objectives in a BIM project. The use cases may vary per BIM project. The following use cases have been implemented in BIM projects at Rapp.
Common collaboration platform (CDE)
Use of a common collaboration platform to centrally process, manage and exchange data, information and protocols.
Contact persons: Antonino Gugliuzzo, Julian Wittwer, Daniel Brändlin
3D modelling and 2D plan derivation
Floor plans, sections and details are derived from 3D models and created according to specified standards..
Contact persons: Antonino Gugliuzzo, Julian Wittwer
Consolidated overall models
Regular merging of subject models into a coordination model with subsequent automated rule and collision checking and systematic conflict resolution (BCF).
Contact person: Reto Vollenweider
Model-based coordination meetings
Regular coordination meetings for the planning team using BIM models to bring about faster decisions in interdisciplinary planning processes.
Contact person: Reto Vollenweider
Model-based layout and materials schedule
The layout and materials schedule contains all the information required for creation and operation that is linked to individual rooms in the BIM model.
Contact persons: Antonino Gugliuzzo, Julian Wittwer
Model-based defect management
Use of models in execution (BIM2Field) + model-based defect management
Takeover of technical construction management and defect management incl. definition of the requirements for digital pending management and defect management..
Contact persons: Antonino Gugliuzzo, Julian Wittwer
Model-based quantity take-off
Volume, area and mass extracts from the model according to SIA 416.
Contact persons: Antonino Gugliuzzo, Julian Wittwer
BIG-Room
Common physical space for on-site collaboration of all project participants. Short paths between project participants allow planning problems to be solved and decisions to be made more efficiently.
Contact person: Benedikt Stäheli
Model-based visualisations
• Visualisations through renderings and virtual reality
• Basis for project and variant decisions
• Improvements to communication, e.g. public relations work
Contact person: Antonino Gugliuzzo
BIM2Field
Use case under construction, already implemented: Operation optimisation concept including energy monitoring.
Contact person: Adrian Strub
Digital construction documentation
"As-built" construction documentation. Information is collected and systematically documented in BIM models and databases. For this, it is important to know the information requirements of the building operation.
Contact person: Dominik Eichenlaub
Inventory (Scan2BIM)
• Mapping of existing buildings through laser scanning and drones
• Evaluation of the point cloud into a BIM-compatible building model
• Detailing of the building model according to the task
Contact person: Dominik Eichenlaub
Model-based construction process simulation (4D)
• Linking of schedule and BIM model / components
• Mapping of complex construction processes on the time axis
• Basis for construction process simulations for visualisation and optimisation of the schedule
Contact person: Patrick Seehöfer
Model-based numerical simulations
• Fumes, flue gas, air/airborne pollutant simulations
• Detailed statements about the course of a fire or the spread of hazardous substances
• Flow simulations as a basis for customised and cost-efficient concepts
Contact person: Thomas Andre
Model-based evacuation simulations
• Estimation of anticipated road traffic and foot traffic volumes
• Greater planning certainty with regard to required dimensioning sizes
• As a result, characteristic values can be calculated (e.g. mean travel times, queues)
• Visualisation for the discussion of variants.
Contact person: Daniele Apicella
Model-based life cycle assessment
• Assessment of grey energy during building construction based on the 3D model (IFC)
• Creates a basis for the development of sustainable buildings from early project phases through to execution
• Optimises building design and material selection
• Supports building certification
Contact: Karin Hinkel
